Researching Scholastic sources in late medieval Armenian texts at AMES Oxford. Also interested in Early Modern Christianity, Natural Theology, Theology and Science. I love coffee, tea, and cake 🍰
Many Protestant theologians think they debunk Aquinas when, in fact, they address Neothomist ideas – for instance the infamous ‘two-storey model’ of nature and grace.
Réginald Garrigou-Lagrange, a central figure of Neothomism, could be an eye opener for Protestant polemics.

Cromwell’s House in Old Marston, now part of Oxford. It was used as the Parliamentarians’ headquarters during the English Civil War. In this house, the Royalists signed their surrender in 1646 in the presence of Thomas Fairfax and Oliver Cromwell.

The eye of Sauron and an astronaut in a 14th century Armenian manuscript.
These are probably pen trials to check the freshly cut pen, nevertheless the shapes are extraordinarily unusual.

Thomas Aquinas left a significant imprint on #Armenian theology. It is not entirely clear which of his works were available in translation. Parts of ST I/II were at least accessible as an excerpt, entitled 'On the virtues of the soul' Հաղագս Առաքինութեան Հոգւոյն:

Armenian printing in the Ottoman Empire: One of the most productive places of #Armenian printing during the 17th and 18th centuries was Constantinople (Istanbul). One of its print houses was operated by Astuatsatur Dpir ('printer') and his family. They printed books for 150 years.

Thanksgiving of a woman on her first visit to church after lying in childbed ('puerpera'):
'The puerpera, when she goes to church, shall come with her female friends and neighbours to the altar and bring her little child; there, the vicar shall remind her to give thanks and to pray.' /1

The monastery of Tatev in Syunik province, South Armenia, was home to a famous medieval university. By integrating Scholastic influences from the neighbouring Dominican mission it created a unique synthesis of Western and Eastern thought, which is yet to be accomplished in contemporary theology.
