🚨Great news! Limit for UK’s most dangerous air pollutant, PM2.5, is being cut to 10 µg/m³ by 2030.

🔥New Environmental Improvement Plan aims to reduce emissions at source.

👏Kudos to Emma Reynolds and Defra for setting ambitious targets.

I am in the process of writing an expanded response to today's Environmental Improvement Plan published by the UK Government, which includes some broad targets for improving the UK’s air quality.

But here are the main points:
Air quality scorecard:

❌Adopting WHO guidelines
❌Reducing meat and dairy
❌Reducing aviation
❌Reducing car traffic
❌Reducing shipping
❌Reducing incinerators
❌Enforcing regulations on wood burning
❌Indoor air quality support

Overall: Poor

The gov is avoiding all the real solutions for clean air.

The Government measures its progress on pollution against the wrong standards.

Ella’s Law would bring UK clean air targets in line with the World Health Organisation’s.

The Government must make more time in Parliament for this Bill or adopt it in full.
Breaking: @emmahardymp.bsky.social publishes Environmental Improvement Plan 2025. Simon Birkett @cleanairlondon.bsky.social commented: "It's a step in the right direction but far adrift from the EU's new legal standards for #AirQuality in 2030. We need #EllasLaw, NO2 of 20 and a pathway to WHO AQGs"

How much #AirPollution is created when you burn wood?

👉 Defra approved/#Ecodesign stove = 400 times more polluting than a gas boiler.
👉 Open fire = 4000 times more polluting than a gas boiler.

Please think twice about burning if you don't need to.

Hope they actually enforce the limits in the EIP for solid fuel burning. The reduction from 5g to 3g of “smoke” per hour should rule out the use of “Ecodesign” stoves in Smoke Control Areas!

Very obvious to everyone that Charnwood don't care about health and safety for anyone. Unfortunately HSE aren't interested in HETAS failures or dangerous emissions from "Ecodesign" stoves. There are no protections for those of us hospitalised by their toxic appliances!

Did you know that burning wood produces benzene, formaldehyde, arsenic, mercury (& more)?

Help us protect Father C's lungs; please don't burn if you don't need to 🙏 .

It's been nearly six weeks since the #Dieselgate trial began. This week, the High Court was told that about a million Ford diesel cars were sold in the UK with defective emissions controls. Many of those cars were never formally recalled or fixed; we are long overdue a manufacturer-funded recall.
