They were NEVER going to give in on ACA subsidies. So let them own it. Let them suffer the rage of voters who lost their coverage or are paying enormous premiums or suffering through hospital closures. No more trying to save Republicans from their own awful policies.

So Republicans will “win” by cutting Medicare by a trillion dollars and refusing relief on ACA premiums. Wonder who will get the blame when the costs and the number of uninsured Americans skyrocket and there is an avalanche of rural hospital shut downs next year…. Hello midterms!

The Magnificent Mile is on Michigan Avenue but Trump should send his troops to the Miracle Mile, south of Garfield on Halsted. Go at night.

Or the Dems set up Repubs to force a healthcare vote they can’t win and then blame them for next year’s healthcare disaster: skyrocketing costs, millions uninsured, rural hospitals closing…. Americans may be more open than ever to “Medicare for all.”

There’s no guarantee the Republicans would have capitulated until there was severe damage to the economy, and Dems would have shared blame. It’s likely the GOP will kill the ACA subsidies in next months vote. That means the coming healthcare crisis is all on the Republicans, Hello midterms…

Right? Maybe he should have made sure his tariffs were legal before he imposed them. If there’s a national security event, it is on him.

I was very angry initially, but now I’m starting to think this may have been a strategic loss to damage the Republicans in 2026 and beyond. Will be interesting to see if Johnson actually swears in Grijalva and has a vote on the shutdown this week. I bet Trump pushes Johnson to delay further.

Trump is trying to figure out how to stop release of the Epstein files so he told Johnson to wait.

Maybe wait to see how this plays out. Dems are no longer losing political capital on the shut down and the Repubs in the Senate have committed themselves to a December vote on ACA subsidies that they cannot win. It’s time the Dems stop saving Republicans from their own bad policies.

If the Republicans had spent that last 15 years working with Dems to improve the ACA instead of destroying it then you (and all of us) would be in a better place. The one year extension was a bandaid. This “only one party caring about healthcare” has to stop.

Yeah but how do you stop the federal government from going after individuals who still owe the taxes are being held in the state escrow fund?

Idk can’t say I disagree with the strategy of no longer trying to save Republicans from themselves. The Medicaid cuts, the increase costs of ACA coverage, closing hospitals, etc. will all be on Republicans. Maybe lose the ACA extension battle but win the war on single payer?

This might be Durbin’s strategy. Instead of burning up political capital on a shutdown to try to save Republicans from themselves, let Trump claim a win. Get Repubs on record voting against healthcare next month. Then watch them get attacked as costs skyrocket and rural hospitals close in 2026.

The Democrats should not waste their energy trying to woo Trump voters. Those cult members will NEVER leave him. Much more bang for your buck in trying to get left-leaning but non-voting Americans off their couches and to the polls.

Maybe. What I read was healthcare will be the main issue in 2026 and beyond. The current proposal will force Republicans to go on record as being against lowering costs and reiterate that they have no plan. Healthcare sh!t hits the fan in 2026. No more saving Republicans from themselves.

I’m reading that this Senate Democrat vote may be some kind of 4th dimensional chess set up for Trump and Congressional Republicans.

He said he would, basically first thing when next House session starts. Of course he could come up with some excuse to postpone bringing the House back.

So any opinions on whether Johnson has enough votes to pass the Senate bill without any Dem help?
