"Ayotte called Canadian authorities “cruel” for sending asylum seekers into the hands of the same immigration authorities who deported more than 100 Venezuelan men to a high-security El Salvador prison and reportedly removed U.S. citizens from their own country."
‘Complicit with a totalitarian regime’: Canada’s border rules are landing asylum seekers in ICE detention
The removals come under a longstanding agreement with the U.S., which advocates say should be suspended in light of increasingly hardline immigration policies south of the border.

I spent the last few days reaching out to advocates, experts and the government about Prime Minister Mark Carney’s new border bill, Bill C-2.

What I learned was…not reassuring.

In fact, advocates are warning it could create a framework for Trump-style mass deportations -- and more:

A similar thing (I think?) happened today when I googled how to see a doctor in Victoria and in the 5 point list Google AI generated, #4 was "Ask people passing by if they are a doctor".
Google and Meta search both report that Cape Breton Island has its own time zone 12 minutes ahead of mainland Nova Scotia time because they are both drawing that information from a Beaverton article I wrote in 2024

“From 1981 to 2015, there were an average of 18 smoke hours per year in the city of Calgary. No year had over 100.

Now we see hundreds of smoke hours routinely: 315 in 2017, 450 in 2018, 439 in 2021, 512 in 2023, and 2024 was ‘only’ 200.”

I’m glad the New York Times profiled ⁦‪Hasan Piker,‬⁩ but calling his use of the word genocide to describe Gaza ‘extreme’ is insane. Some of Israel’s top Holocaust scholars are calling it a genocide as are Amnesty & Human Rights Watch. Absurd from NYT.

After that, we probably won't know much more for many hours.

Given the global attention already on it, a lot of speculation will inevitably happen.

The best thing you can do is not amplify it.

Lol, the National did a segment on young men who are swinging Conservative and extensively interviewed a right wing TikToker who I'm WELL aware of.

"The only reason why young people on the right are talking about all of this woke stuff is because people on the left are obsessed with it," he said.

(I’m sure someone has) but has anyone proposed that if a single political party gets like, over 45% of the seats they be forced to split because that voting block is too large to not allow a greater diversity in opinion? Like they could still govern, but it would have to be a coalition.
