People love to hate Schumer/Jeffries but they played a bad hand probably as well as they could.
This was smart electoral politics.
Are people going to suffer? Of course but short of a miracle that was always in the cards.
This play leaves the healthcare issue front and center next year.

Not when he's using tariffs to extort the rest of the world to do his bidding.
He's built his entire presidency on tariffs. It's the most direct grift available to him.

Disagree, the agreement just pushes the battle to February.
The closer the healthcare debate is to the Nov elections, the better it will be for Dem candidates.
People will suffer in the interim but sadly that was always going to be the case once the GOP won the White House and Congress.

They'll have another bite at the apple in February.
Who knows what the public mood will be then in the Red states hurt most by the loss of subsidies? GOP reps might be feeling the heat at home.
If nothing else the shutdown gave the GOP a chance to show their voters what they think about SNAP.

The ACA subsidies were a strategic wedge issue to highlight GOP hypocrisy.
It worked. Non-stop media coverage for 30+ days.
This agreement keeps the issue front and center and forces the GOP to vote no (at least in the Senate, maybe in the House).
They couldn't keep the gov't shut down forever.

Seem to recall the Dems rejecting this concept a while back.
After Tuesday's election results, now they're thinking this would be a hot issue to run on in 2026.
With the credits expiring again this would loom over every budget decision/argument made by the GOP.

It's a No-brainer that the people who were motivated to come out for No Kings were also committed to voting on election day.
The protests were peaceful but you could feel the joy and determination in the crowds.
This administration will surely provide ample reasons to keep folks engaged next year.
