You can hide the root armour block and it won't hide any blocks you've added on top of it.
I recommend looking to the Per-face UV setting when modifying armour.

You can hide the root armour block and it won't hide any blocks you've added on top of it.
I recommend looking to the Per-face UV setting when modifying armour.
