Great article and audioblog as antidote to my doomed view. I repeatedly read and listen to them .

The political party with anti-decarborization is gaining popularity in Japan, and they feel decarborization is dead. I'm convinced that they are wrong!
My latest for Bloomberg: the #PragmaticClimateReset. Part I: The transition is not dead - in fact it's on track as long as you think like a tortoise, not like a hare.

(Before you ask, Part II will be out over the summer)

Our own @hannahritchie.bsky.social has a new book about tackling climate change coming out next month!

Called “Clearing the Air”, it covers everything from renewable energy and nuclear power to electric vehicles, heat pumps, minerals, carbon capture, and geoengineering.

August 6, 2025 at 4:10 PM

My preferred way to resolve the debate about whether human-caused global warming is accelerating is to stop causing global warming
Is global warming accelerating? Over at The Climate Brink I argue that the consilience of evidence from surface temperatures, climate models, forcing changes, ocean heat content, and earth energy imbalance all point toward yes: www.theclimatebrink....

Despite all the negativity in parts of the press:

Change is happening. It’s not a straight line but things are moving.

More and more people understand that relying on increasingly volatile and expensive fossil fuel imports is not a viable pathway.

We don’t need silver buckshot. Climate change is not a werewolf. Leave the werewolves alone. We don’t need to shoot climate change. We need everything we got to get GHGs to zero, remove carbon, build resilient communities. I’ve never been more optimistic that we will.

NEW: Cheaper batteries mean near-24/365 solar is now economic☀️

We analysed 18 years of hourly insolation data at 12 places, to see how close to 24/365 electricity it was possible to get.

The sunniest places get over 90% - and up to 99% - of the way... from just $100/MWh. 🧵

Yes, I'm relatively optimistic and I bet temperature peak median on 1.8C (around 1.6C~2.2C).
This is similar to what Rystad and WEO APS scenario say, but also I cannot deny sometimes I got scared......
May 1, 2025 at 4:17 PM
Hi, are there any introductory articles how to "interpret" energy and climate scenarios like IPCC reports and IEA WEO for ordinary people?

Some my friend guys seems to confuse projections, forecast and scenario. It causes to become doomer, and I want to avoid that.....

I keep hearing that data center operators "don't want to operate flexibly" and make so much money they may not care. But as they confront the realities & constraints of trying to connect to a grid that's struggling to meet demand growth, I expect it'll become a matter of necessity—not just money.🔌💡
Good point here from @jigarshahdc.bsky.social: once the full cost & lead time of large-scale capacity expansion is accounted (his estimate is $100/MWh), it's likely to incentivize more innovative demand-side management from hyperscalers. 🔌💡 www.latitudemedia.com/news/open-ci...

People often claim low-carbon energy is a *bigger* risk to energy security than fossil fuels because of the need for minerals.

I don't think so.

I explained why in an old Substack: www.sustainabilitybynumbers.com/p/energy-sec...
