Haven’t played a show in 6 years but let’s see what this is like? I’m 33 and way less depressed and I think I have some new songs but I need to play them live to see if they actually work.

Actually starting to loathe the on/off clicking of guitar pedals. Kind of ruins the immersion. Some of my fav albums have pedal clicking, tho.

i find this image so fascinating. it is both a literal example of authoritarianism but also a second-hand reproduction of the aesthetics of other authoritarian states. it's like a simulacra of authoritarianism whose purpose is to attempt to make the simulacra real.
This is a real photograph of Washington, DC this week, where the United States president has ordered military occupation in peacetime, and ordered the display of colossal portraits of himself.

I said to myself I wouldn’t see Wilco this time - no new album, bad venue, seen them countless times, etc. - and yet here I am buying a floor ticket on the day of the show

This is a baffling decision. Soundexchange’s job is to collect and distribute royalties and ensure that artists get paid when their music is played on services like Sirius, the satellite radio monopolist. Taking away their right to sue amounts to giving Sirius the right to underpay.
District Court holds that the Copyright Act doesn't confer standing on SoundExchange to bring a lawsuit on behalf of artists over unpaid royalties. As a result, it's complaint vs. Sirius XM, alleging more than $10 million unpaid royalties, is dismissed.

Last night we saw Bill Orcutt. It sounded like a tube blew in his amp about two or three songs in and when a tech said he'd swap it out Bill said "I'll finish it with this one." Great show.

Especially since the publication of 'Mood Machine,' there's a growing sense among underground musicians that we don't have to simply accept our own exploitation by streaming.

I wrote about the artists who are dropping out and imagining a future beyond it www.hearingthings.co/musicians-no...

Will Stratton :: Points of Origin

aquariumdrunkard.com/2025/03/04/w...

Will Stratton ditches his usual delicacy and heads deep into fire country on his eighth album, delivering a quietly ambitious and wholly convincing set of songs about conflagrations, California and the steady erosions of time.

This is beyond f**ked now.

Spotify was already pushing it with the whole "no pay-out for any song with less than 1,000 streams per year"

No pay-out for any artist with less than 1,000 monthly listeners is remarkably abusive and exploitative toward small artists

I just want to make as much beautiful stuff as possible with my limited time alive on this planet, and avoid being sucked into caring about any work that ultimately doesn't make the world a better place, is that too much to ask?

It's that Bandcamp day again so posting last year's album. I'll be more pushy and insufferable about the next one, probably, if I can get over the embarrassment of posting online. Love you all. :)

Listening to Pavement… instantly rocking out. Walking down alleys so I don’t hurt anyone with my air-drumming. I somehow know every single word. Perfect music.
