Any insights into why this is happening? (first run of code in Matlab is much slower than subsequent runs). Normal and expected? Google-fu didn't turn up much.

Always satisfying to determine the perfect initial condition 🤩

Outstanding interview, so many great quotes here. Loved the weightroom analogy:

Wandered into the lab and it appeared there were some big questions being tackled this week.

In my large (biomech) class I use super-heroes to introduce laws of physics by how heroes violate them, these are my four favorites (Optimus Prime gets top billing of course).

Strava AI was unimpressed with my interval workout (steady ride, mostly cruising). Didn't feel like I was cruising 😂

Also looks like a GRF!

The shape of the support moment in walking and running is basically the same as the shape of the GRF. This similarity occurs because the GRF is aligned roughly with the long axis of the lower limb. This alignment minimizes (or reduces, at least) the joint moments needed to produce the GRF.

Not sure I've seen a more generous definition of "the next few days".

It's grade-grubbing season.

Bittersweet day, Gauri Desai's last day as a postdoc in our lab. It's been a real pleasure, the bar is set high for the next postdoc!

Congrats to Avery Moe, great honors thesis on effective mass in side-kicks. Similar to my investments, I was the bag-holder:

Reviewer is asking ~ why we put markers on the (form-fitting, spandex-type) clothing near the pelvis/genitalia, rather than directly on the skin.

Is it common for participants to be buck-naked in your lab? Can't say I've ever seen/heard of that in my ~20 years here.

Not as good as new bike day, but it’s new marker day (hopefully for the last time!).

Did you see this @sickoscbb.bsky.social? Illinois retired TSJ's jersey yesterday but the banner was upside-down (image courtesy of u/J_Fre22 on reddit):

First time watching the Cyclones (Iowa State men’s basketball, to the uninitiated) in-person in 19 years, had a great time with my folks and big brother, niece and nephew! The road win helped too.
