In the Philippines, we mostly call aunts “tita” and this includes even your parent’s friends. Anyway this is Filipina drag artist Tita Baby. She is your tita now.

Someone has to write how increasingly corny the Philippine Bar Exams have become. The 2026 Bar chair’s special letter to examinees took it up a notch by sounding like an Alpha Male motivational script.

Extracting every last centavo from Filipinos whom they see as disposable. BILLIONS of cash stacked on top of each other as spoils for politicians. I hate this so much

The outrage in Manila shouldn’t come as a surprise when state violence has always been an everyday reality.

Outright acceptance, cool and unexpected. The International Journal of Discrimination and the Law will publish my note on the CEDAW Committee’s Views on the communication filed by remaining survivors of wartime sexual slavery in the Philippines. A positive outcome years after domestic remedy failed.

I swear, the #ICC is NOT ready for very very strange Filipino behavior towards politicians. First, the blow-by-blow Instagram stories of the arrest c/o Kitty Duterte, now this 😭 ICL’s most unserious moments coming from Prosecutor v Duterte

Slightly was a bundle of nerves when I presented a human rights report I wrote with a national scope. Had a chance to engage with grassroots CSOs and members of the different diplomatic missions in the process. Nice point to pause in my domestic human rights work before I start my PhD.

I can finally breathe after MONTHS anxiety. I only ever wished to do this application process once because this is not for the faint of heart. I’m joining UNSW Law next year as a PhD student! Many thanks to @ntinatzouvala.bsky.social for seeing the promise in this doctoral project!

A few interesting things here in the #Philippines as the ball rolls in pursuing accountability for Duterte-era violations:

- Secretary of Justice explicitly uses the term ‘IHL’ Law (RA 9851) as possible basis to prosecute Duterte.
- RA 9851 is the PH’s ‘domestication’ of the Rome Statute

Almost forgot that I availed of the free portrait headshot during UP Law’s last recognition ceremonies for our graduates. Old school studio photo ‘feel’ as a (quite literally) fading medium?

SEA/IL folks in The Hague, I’ll be joining the ILSEA 2024 Conference (Nov 21-22) to take place in the The Hague University of Applied Sciences. Will be speaking in the ECR panel (but only joining remotely) on how authoritarian populism ‘ruptures’ international law’s temporality.
