As long as the Trump Regime continues to do horrific things to immigrants & citizens with ICE, this suggests to me that:

a) Democrats should run on being the anti-Fascist party, like Sheriff-elect Ceisler did in Bucks County, and

b) Republicans may get their asses handed to them in 2026.

Bucks County is more affluent than the county I canvassed for Harris last year (Luzerne), but still below the state average for household income.

It appears that even less affluent white people - Trump's core demographic - are increasingly repulsed by #ICE 's Gestapo tactics. /2

But yeah I definitely agree that weaking regulations is a concern in other sectors/tech.

For instance, I think moves by the Trump Administration to speed up nuclear permitting is a potentially much higher risk endeavor. /2

I think this is the challenge. How do we simplify regulations to build more of the stuff that we need (clean energy, housing, transmission top my list), and retain robust regulations to protect the public in the many instances of real danger?

I like the way the EU is doing this with renewables. /1

I think there are ways simplify regulations in ways that do not dilute their effect.

There's a need for simplification. It takes a minimum of 3 1/2 years to get US federal permits to build offshore wind - under a cooperative administration. That's unnecessary and too long for a climate solution.

Little-known fact: #RhodeIsland has the 2nd-highest portion of demand met with in-state #solar of any state east of the Rockies: >16% in 2024. Annd about 2/3 of that is solar smaller than 1 MW. REG is a big part of that. /3

Sue is an absolute champion for #climateaction, and gets shit done. One little-known detail: Sue helped get the cap removed on #RhodeIsland ‘s Renewable Energy Growth program, which will enable ongoing massive #solar deployment in this state. /2

Of course, I often just rely on Reuters for my daily world news.

But how about y'all? What are some of the great independent / smaller publications that I didn't mention in my first five? /7

Finally: it's notable that anti-wind conspiracy theorists in #NewEngland propose SMRs & other nukes as an alternative to #offshorewind - despite their dismal economics, despite how long it takes to build them.

It's clear that they are not listening to the Navajo, not considering lifecycle effects.9
November 11, 2025 at 6:49 PM
This is especially important as we gear up for the Trump Regime's attempt to force the expansion of nuclear power in the USA, despite its dismal economics.

There will be side effects to this expansion. It is not without consequence. /8

Nuclear emits zero carbon in operations & is an important part of our existing zero-carbon generation in the USA. But I personally have a hard time calling it "clean" - especially compared to #solar & #wind.

We need to consider full lifecycles & listen to the experiences of the Navajo & others. /7

As we talk about our energy choices, we need to be clear on the full effects. I maintain that the #climatecrisis must be a main focus - but I agree with the EJ community that it cannot be the sole focus. We must also examine other forms of environmental and human damage & make careful decisions. /6

This is why I really appreciate this @insideclimatenews.org article and the ability to read the statements of Navajo and other anti-uranium mining activists, as well as summaries of the research on health effects.

And I wonder - where are the national #environmentaljustice advocates on this? /5
November 11, 2025 at 6:43 PM
This summer I drove through the Navajo Nation with my family on the way to the Grand Canyon & other desert areas. Visible from the road on Highway 89 were anti- #nuclear billboards complaining about the contamination and health effects of uranium mining.

And I recall thinking: where is the press?/4
November 11, 2025 at 6:38 PM
Interesting that with all demands for attention to the impacts of our energy choices on people of color and marginalized communities, I don't read much in the press about the experience of the Navajo and other SW Native Americans with uranium mining.

Not so on the Navajo Reservation. /3

During the past few decades that I've been full-time (or more) in climate and the #energytransition, there have been two big trends:

1) The rise of the #climatejustice movement and a demand that we look not just at climate

2) constant pro-nuclear PR leading to a recovery in public opinion
