I get slightly unnerved when I come to post on BlueSky and it says, "What's up?" In American I presume that means, "What's going on, is there any news?" But in English it really signifies, "Oh dear, what on earth can be the matter?"

We absolutely should be protesting the actions of the Israeli government towards the innocent people of Gaza. Jewish people absolutely should feel safe and secure and loved on the streets of our country. There is absolutely nothing incompatible between these two.

Ming Campbell was a dedicated public servant and a true Liberal giant.
His principled leadership opposing the Iraq War was a mark of his morality, courage and wisdom.
But more than that, he was an incredibly warm and caring friend and colleague.

I wonder what nonsense POTUS will come up with next? Maybe we should suggest a few in case he's stuck? Cleaning your teeth causes prostate cancer... eating breakfast cereal gives you AIDS... biscuits and gravy is a source of psoriasis.... breathing the air inside the Oval Office causes dementia...?
