This is key point. They are conducting some illegal mass firings to scare the rest into resigning voluntarily.
The folks fired illegally will get their jobs back/back pay in a year or two after litigation- but in the meantime, they hope mass numbers of others will have quit.

If it were legal to fire you, they wouldn't put so much effort into getting you to resign voluntarily.
