Good news! The fact that it's still in the package means that you're so good at putting chairs together that you did it with fewer than the recommended number of parts! Any extras are bonus points! :D

Yeah, there's definitely something to be said for "if it ain't broke, don't fix it", but breaking stuff is how you learn lol.
I'm just glad that I can get all my basic needs working through Linux, Microsoft has really been showing their true colors lately and I don't wanna play that game anymore.

AI code being allowed for contributions to Fedora. Still kinda waiting that one out to see what happens...

it, and it's just a matter of finding time to do a dry run on a spare laptop to make sure I know what I'm doing before starting over on my main machine again, and frankly that's just a lot of effort, but I want to have it just in case I break something. Doubly so if I eventually switch to Arch over+

I like that on Mint the first thing the welcome utility tells you to do is set up snapshots with Timeshift, and it's super easy to do. Fedora is totally different with btrfs though and so I think in order to do it right I might wanna do a fresh install and tailor the file structure/partitions for+

I feel this. A lot of the friends I used to have I haven't been outright *avoiding*, but for sure I have no idea how the hell I'd relate to them anymore or at worst, avoid starting an actual fight and looking like the bad guy for doing so.

I've found that works for that, but there's a few things like system snapshots and the like that I'm still trying to figure out before it all feels "done", and that's just kinda been the target of my compulsion to work on something when I should really be taking it easy.

Yeah. This post was originally mainly just about my own compulsions and Linux just happens to be the thing I'm drawn to at the moment, but I totally see where you're coming from.
I like Linux Mint but I specifically wanted something more cutting-edge for gaming, and right now Fedora is the thing+

for over a decade. Act III finally coming out has genuinely been sitting on my "reasons to live" list during my darkest moments lately and that's not praise I give lightly. Go give it (and the rest of The Protomen's music) a listen if you haven't already if you like rock operas or Mega Man.

All in all though, I'm *very* excited to hear the last four tracks and for the final release, where I'm going to do like I did with the previous Acts and sit down with nothing but the music and the liner notes to experience (what I assume is) the conclusion of this story that I've been anticipating+

It seems like they might've retooled the two tracks we got a peek at on the Act III single back in 2015 (Hold Back the Night and This City Made Us). My untrained ear seems to detect some slight differences in the vocals and instruments to how I remember them, will have to go back and check sometime.

this release while a lot of fans were worried they'd disappeared. They cooked on this one and we're eating *good* right now.
I think that might also be the reason they haven't been touring outside their home of Nashville, I can't imagine writing music like this with 8+ people while on the road.

I really love to see The Protomen using elements of all their previous works to make something not just worthy of the story they want to tell but that also feels unique in its own identity, and not just derivative of its predecessors or rehashing them. It's clear the band has been working hard on+

Speaking of The Cover Up, something Act III seems to borrow are these interlude tracks between some of the songs that are mostly instrumental or even sometimes just ambient noise that adds to the atmosphere. Act I and II kind of had this but it was mostly just noise at the start or end of a track.

10 years since The Cover Up came out.
I guess I'm still trying to puzzle out how it's going to fit into the overall narrative, both with the story itself and the overall sound and vibes. It'll probably be a lot more clear once the liner notes come out with the physical releases.

I'm not sure it's going to have the same effect if you listen to Act I (their oldest work) and jump straight into the latest of Act III, and I'm not sure it's meant to. Act III feels like something completely new, and to be fair maybe it should, given it's been 16 years since Act II came out and+

It is kind of an unexpected change in sound after the gritty dystopian lo-fi of Act I and the twangy old world changing into something new and mechanical of Act II. I really love how those two albums flow into each other if you listened to them in reverse order since Act II is a prequel.

It's weird to say about a band like The Protomen, but it's a lot "synthier". Very much leaning into the 80s synth vibe with strong basslines that really scratch the part of my brain that likes classic rock and heavy metal. Very much the kind of thing that gets my blood pumping, so that's great.

So, it's been several weeks, and we're only 4 songs away from having the entirety of The Protomen: Act III at our fingertips. Just got caught up on the tracks released so far, and I've gotta say, I'm really interested in the sound of this one. Definitely has a distinct feel from their previous work.

I've just gotta be really careful not to try too hard to *feel* like I'm doing enough when I already went to work and did the things that had to be done today, because I know it will never feel like enough if I don't tell myself when to stop.
I have no clue if this makes sense to anyone else.

Don't get me wrong, I like messing with computers and the whole process of switching over to Linux has been really rewarding in a lot of ways, but figuring out what I'm doing is *work*, even if it doesn't always seem like it to me.
