Sometimes you find a writer's style just doesn't work for you, or the pacing is wrong. And that's okay. Not every book has to be perfect for every reader. There are hundreds of millions of books, more than enough to meet everyone's preferences.

I enjoyed the political intrigue in The Stormlight Archive. Might not be as deep as GoT but I enjoyed it. Lots of slow-burning stuff, backstabbing especially in the beginning of the series.
