💬 And the decision to shelve bolder, widely supported reforms raises serious questions about the role of money in politics.

We warn that too many of the Budget's decisions appear shaped less by evidence than by private influence.

📈Many of the reforms unveiled are steps in the right direction.

Yet freezing thresholds and making only minor adjustments to capital gains and dividend income leave the very richest largely untouched.

For everyone that says “but 14 years of the Tories” or anyone that has to listen to it👇🏻
When you see "14 years of x" line, it tells you you're dealing with someone who can't analyse politics without a party lens.

Britain's been governed by the same overarching philosophy since 1979, regardless of which party was in power. And without understanding that, you won't understand anything.
How should Labour tackle 14 years of mismanagement? I'd like to hear some realistic alternatives, considering the available resources in law professionals, university places and tutors and physical spaces. All I've read so far here is 'throw money at it' without considering the resource implications

Do you live in an apartment complex? How about printing out some fliers letting your neighbors know that on a particular day of the week, u will be cooking X extra meals and that anyone who needs one can stop by your place at X hour to pick one up no questions asked? Can even leave them at the door.

The burial of a report exposing the Met police's institutional racism shows a lack of commitment to change. Black, minoritised, and migrant communities deserve transparency.

The Met must make the report public and accept the findings of the report and the Casey Review on force culture.

Child poverty has risen in the UK faster than any other high-income country and now more than 2 million children live in absolute poverty. It's a systemic crisis – fixing any part of it requires a more equal society. But! There is a way we can do that, argues Equality Trust's Vanessa Boon.

I bang on about this a lot: I think the combination of a global pandemic, underregulated internet/SM, collapse/corruption of trustworthy media, plus now unregulated genAI, is a wildly toxic environment for radicalisation & mental health. We see the results of that in our politics & lives every day

There is work being done by individuals+orgs around the wider harms capitalism is causing society and the impact of living in a hyper capitalist, colonialist, white supremacist is having on us.
Idly wondering what a public health campaign on this would look like, and why stuff we tried for, eg, drink driving, isn't being used.

Did you know it's legal to say "an Elbit arms manufacturing plant in Bristol has closed its doors after months of targeting from Palestine Action". But it'd ILLEGAL to follow that with "what incredible work from those heroes". That'd be an offence under the Terrorism Act of 2000. Don't say that!

The UK has a disproportionately high prison population of around 1.34%. Of that population, Black people are approximately twice as overrepresented as white people. The prison system is violent, cruel, and racist and should be abolished.
