The “blackout” headlines from AEMO’s transition report were predictable. But the big question is over what actions are taken now to protect heartbeat of the grid.

We need better education on how RE can benefit our environment and lives.
I’ve taken students to see an urban solar farm which has sheep grazing underneath.

Energy transitions can happen faster than we think:

In 2000 almost 90% of Denmark's electricity was from fossil fuels.

In 2024 less than 10% of Danish electricity was from fossil fuels.

And get this, the headline is:

Blackout risk: Grid 'not ready' for coal plant closures, solar surge

Not only is "blackout risk" absent from AEMO's report & media release, but 'not ready' doesn't appear either. Has quote marks around it, but no one says it in the story, report or media release.

Scary, scary! Save us from nasty renewables, lovely coal!

I love that the word "blackout" appears just 2 times in AEMO's 154 page report, yet makes the SMH headline!

Plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) produce as almost as much CO₂ as non-hybrid vehicles.

EU analysis of mandatory onboard fuel consumption monitoring of PHEV cars being driven normally shows that their CO₂ emissions are around 140 g/km – not much lower than non-hybrid petrol cars

This perfectly encapsulates how I feel living in the US. The republican party is an insane death cult, the democratic party is 3 corporations in a trench coat, and the "socialists" are just the completely normal left-wing capitalists you'd find in any of 2 dozen European nations.
Europeans recognize Zohran Mamdani’s supposedly radical policies as ‘normal’

A paean to privatised public transport.

Today I had to go from Stockport to Salisbury. So I bought a ticket

Stockport > Bristol > Salisbury

The drive to Stockport should have taken 35 minutes. Satnav said it would take 2 hours, and I'd miss my train.

So I went to Macclesfield, where I found...

Is there a reason I ask that the Times are using a picture of asylum seekers in a boat to describe rules for migrants who came on legal routes such as skilled worker visas for doctors?
Tough new conditions to be imposed on migrants who want to settle in the UK will not apply to more than a million people who arrived in the UK under the post-Brexit immigration surge
Labour’s tough new rules will not apply to migrants already in UK

I’m back to tell you 3 things about ID cards:

1. Migrants ALREADY HAVE biometric ID cards & govts have been trying to digitise them for years w repeated fuckups & failures causing complete chaos - they don’t work, you do not want that system for you.

But as it correctly says, the much more immediate threat is that *Labour* will move the goalposts.

MEDIA RELEASE: SA Premier spreads gas industry misinformation

Premier Peter Malinauskas told an event sponsored by the gas lobby that a new gas project in Narrabri, NSW, is needed to firm up SA's electricity supply.

Our research, using the government’s own data, proves this is simply not true.
