Museum curator, nature watcher, often intrigued. Likes three item lists.
For a quick overview of the ARL, I did a poster at AGU in December 2024. I was surprised to learn that HYSPLIT can be used to predict the spread of locusts. Truly, NOAA protects people from biblical curses. Here's an image version.

Met another registered republican woman who is just sooo excited to vote for Harris. Lots of enthusiasm amongst dems to do this today.

Also saw this brick that has the opposite enthusiasm.

There’s no evidence of a Republican ground game here. The County GOP office was closed Saturday morning, as dozens of dem canvassers came to pick up their turfs. Haven’t seen a single GOP canvasser, or door hanger. We’ve got people coming up from DC, Maryland, VA to knock doors.

Yes, the polls are close, but it feels really good for Democrats out here in central PA. Here’s what I’ve learned from talking with about 200 voters and knocking on 330 doors in a Pennsylvania swing district over the last few weeks. 1/

One weird thing: Listerine playing on every parent's anxiety when they tell their kids to go to bed. "Are you unpopular with your own children?"(1928)

One weird thing: A 1960's RV equipped as a mobile smog monitoring station. "Ask about our lease plan."

One weird thing: Cartoon showing Abraham Lincoln as a chemist, brewing up a "pure refined national elixir of liberty."

One weird thing: An illustration Beatrix Potter made for her uncle, chemist Henry Roscoe. It was inspired by a line from a textbook he wrote about heating cheese in a test tube so students could learn to identify the pungent odor of anhydrous ammonia. digital.sciencehistory.org/works/f4752h...

Today's one weird thing: a fight between spectrophotometer salesmen in 1954.
