“Of the 16 arrestees with criminal histories — or about 2.5% of the 614 people — five involved domestic battery, two were related to drunken driving.”

I’d be willing to bet the percentage of ICE/CBP agents with similar records is not very different. Of course they won’t provide names to check.
NEWS: Internal Homeland Security documents on 600+ detainees to be released prove that the vast majority of immigrants detained in Chicago area are "low" public safety risk, even by the government's loose standards. www.chicagotribune.com/2025/11/14/o...
Only 2.5% on list of 614 ‘Operation Midway Blitz’ arrestees had criminal histories, DOJ records show
Meanwhile, the other 598 people on the list had no listed criminal history at all.

As Bovino has led the immigration enforcement operation in the Chicago region since September, he's been portrayed as a political tool of the White House. He's previously insisted he's "apolitical" in his work, but he and his household have donated campaign money to Trump and his Republican allies.

Starbucks' CEO is paid $95.8 MILLION.

The median worker at Starbucks makes $14,674 a year.

Instead of recognizing its worker union, Starbucks writes off its union-busting expenses on its taxes.

That's why Starbucks workers are striking today.

I won't cross the picket line.

All jokes aside, this is by far the most serious concern I have about sports gambling today. And players in all sports are loudly sounding the alarms right now.
Just wait until gun violence and gambling scandals collide and we wonder aimlessly as to how this possibly could have been avoided.

"What if one of YOUR favorite politicians/celebrities/etc is on the list?" Did you all not notice how quickly we dropped Neil Gaiman when we found out about the things he did? Do you know how beloved that guy used to be and how loathed he is now? I think that right there should answer your question.

the astonishing thing about this wave of denialism is that we have more or less decidedly hit the point where clean energy is the *cheaper* option by some distance
I'm kind of baffled how the "moderates" have apparently all decided to turn against climate policy at once, just as China reaches green electrostate liftoff mode. I thought these people were all about National Greatness and making Hard Choices

When Massachusetts passed a "millionaires tax" in 2023, conservatives claimed the rich would flee.

But two years later, they haven't — and MA has collected $5.7B for infrastructure and public education.

A reminder that positive change can still happen at the state level.

Don't forget, the alderman of the ward in which this building sits had something to do with making this raid happen
NEW: @propublica.org investigated the Chicago apartment raid where kids were zip-tied and citizens detained for hours. They find:

- NONE of the arrested were criminally charged
- NO evidence the building was "filled with TdA terrorists."
- ZERO legitimate reason for DHS to rappel from a Blackhawk.

This is a good question. Reuters reports Trump admin has hired 50,000 workers, primarily in immigration enforcement.

For context, that's equivalent to the total number of job losses in Health & Human Services, Veterans Affairs, USAID and Interior COMBINED, per the Partnership for Public Service
