Fear of being sent to a notorious El Salvador prison, where inmates never see the light of day, plays into that goal, said @rodabouharb.bsky.social, an associate professor of international relations who researches forced disappearances at the University College London.

An important story by @brittanywong.huffpost.com on #EnforcedDisappearances now also taking place in the #US under the #Trump administration.
In April, a UN report said incommunicado detentions to El Salvador's notorious mega-prison CECOT appeared to involve “enforced disappearances, contrary to international law."

I wrote an explainer on what it means to "disappear" people and what Americans can do to counter what's happening.
People Are 'Disappearing' Since Trump Took Office. Here's What That Means.
Enforced disappearance functions as a tool of terror in two ways.

This is an indication of the kind of political consensus that can be built if Labour makes the right case for breaking its red lines: Uniting right wing concerns about defence & patriotism, left-wing demands for investment & independence from the US, and widely-shared commitments to Ukraine.

This is Winston Churchill visiting the White House during World War II.

Funny how he isn’t wearing a suit either. Almost like he was a wartime leader defending his country from being slaughtered and wiped out by an authoritarian aggressor.

Generations of American patriots, from our revolution onward, have fought for the principles Zelenskyy is risking his life to defend. But today, Donald Trump and JD Vance attacked Zelenskyy and pressured him to surrender the freedom of his people to the KGB war criminal who invaded Ukraine.
ZELENSKYY: Putin broke the ceasefire. What kind of diplomacy, JD, are you speaking about?

VANCE: I think it's disrespectful to come into the Oval Office and try to litigate this in front of the American media

You can’t make this stuff up. Trump supporters spent the past few years obsessing over an apparent sex trafficking cabal in charge of our country. And yet one of the first things Trump seems to have done, apparently, is push to get the Tates, charged with sex trafficking, released from Romania.

Andrew and Tristan Tate, the online influencers, are facing investigations in Romania and Britain, including accusations of human trafficking and sex crimes.
