A sliver of hope with US officials announcing a meeting this week with China on tariffs.
One thing is for sure even if there is progress. Xi is never going to agree to sit in the Oval Office next to Trump and risk being contradicted the way Carney was today.
News just now: Treasury and USTR simultaneously announce that Sec. Bessent and Amb. Greer will both travel to Switzerland this week to meet with Chinese officials to talk trade.

Comes after Bessent said today trade talks with China had not yet begun.

Equally, trying to parse what the President is saying is pretty close to impossible. There are many interpretations:
1. He's not making deals, but rather dictating tariff rates
2. He's looking to make deals, but if you don't like his terms you can walk away
3. He still hasn't figured any of this out

In a long monologue in the Oval Office beside Canadian PM Mark Carney this afternoon, the President appears to say the trade "deals" his team are working on are not deals in the traditional sense, as they will not have to be signed.
