EDITED: Sports punditry and political punditry used to be (roughly) equally stupid. But thanks to Bill James, Baseball Prospectus and now a million others, sports punditry is WAY smarter than political punditry, since political punditry remains the same old knee-jerk idiocy since I was a wee lad.

Over the next week I’m planning to sell 6 football sets on eBay. 1968-1973. If interested let me know. I will determine eBay price (based on recent sales), but $50 discount here. I listed 1972 (EX, series 1+2) for $400.

(I tried to get credit from my son, but he said “you have football cards?”)

pre-writing a devastating obituary for your enemy is god-tier hating of a kind you don’t often see anymore. renaissance haterism. beautiful stuff.
A Sharon Begley byline, almost 5 years after her death.

Upon hearing the news James Watson had died, a STAT reporter said in our Slack, "I wish I could read what Sharon would have written."

Incredible news: Sharon in fact did pre-write a Watson obit. And it is masterful and excoriating.

“It’s almost like he thinks my needs are unimportant. Like he doesn’t care about my opinions, or that he doesn’t think about me at all. Now obviously that can’t possibly be true, because I am a big important boy.”

Increased ICE activity in North Portland today has led Portland Public Schools to lock exterior doors at César Chávez School and George Middle School, along with other protective measures. Other North Portland schools are monitoring the situation closely.

One day, the kings of Rockies Land were upset. They were fed up with all their losing! "We must change our ways," the kings said. "We must learn from the world around us. We must set forth to find a more successful team, and hope they will teach us their ways."

The truly maddening thing is that, unlike when I was a young man in science and the materials and engineering just weren’t there yet, the future is *right there.* The problem is *solved*. What’s holding us back is not just greed, but this bizarre nostalgia, an obsession with petro- masculinity.

So, here's a thing I wasn't able to talk about publicly until now:

In late August, I was visiting family in Minnesota and we all went out to dinner. As we were leaving, there was a Cybertruck in the parking lot of the restaurant. Well, I'd had a couple bourbons and was feeling my oats, so...

I try not to get overly political here, but today feels like a day to make the world a better place. Reach out to your friends and loved ones, and tell them: When they use the words "major league" as a compound modifier, they should hyphenate it. "major-league hitter."

There. I've done my part
