The books I read in October and November. I love epistolary novels so The Correspondent by Virginia Evans was a top read for me. I’m also a fan of epic family dramas so Buckeye by Patrick Ryan was right up my alley. And of course, once again, Willa Cather never disappoints!

This book came to me at just the right time. I listened to the audio book narrated by Gornick which is a bonus. I absolutely adored her observations on friendship, literature, and walking the streets of NYC. I’m embracing my odd woman spirit as I take long walks on the opposite side of the U.S.

The books I read in July. I’m really enjoying reading a Willa Cather novel each month along with others participating in @colleenka’s Willa Cather 2025 project. Cather is a guaranteed good read.

The books I read in June. Standouts included a reread of The Professor’s House by Willa Cather, During the Reign of the Queen of Persia by Joan Chase, and Clara Reads Proust by Stéphane Carlier, translated by Polly Mackintosh. All in all another great reading month.

Beautiful morning for a long walk, followed by a library visit to pick up all the holds waiting for me.

The books I read in May. It was another excellent reading month. My Friends by Hisham Matar, The Pastor by Hanne Ørstavik, translated by Martin Aiken, and a reread of Willa Cather’s One of Ours were standouts. These three will certainly go on my top reads of the year.

Happy to add another Hanne Ørstavik novel to my collection. Peirene Press published the first ever English translation of one of her novels - The Blue Room - as part of their Coming of Age series. Translated from the Norwegian by Deborah Dawkin.

I’ve heard so many good things about Hisham Matar’s novel My Friends. I’m excited to dive into this one.

The Story of Lucy Gault is the first novel I’ve read by William Trevor. Something about these lines gutted me. Looking forward to reading more of his work

The books I read in February. Two rereads: O Pioneers and The Haunting of Hill House. Memorial Days : a memoir by Geraldine Brooks was a moving, beautiful, and comforting memoir about grief. It will make it on my top reads of the year.

Is it too soon to decide this beautiful novel will be in my top ten reads of 2025?
