Crispy emerita. Lurking mostly.
I met a homeless little girl and her mom at a rest stop. I had no money but I gave her my hand lens. I said it was a window to a magical world. I told her I was a scientist because of what I saw in the window and maybe she could be one too.

Hiding in the war-ravaged jungles of the Portland metro. One can hear the explosions of color all over the region. Running out of food for the blue jays and squirrels. Molotov kombucha mocktails thrown into glasses everywhere. Oh, the horror . . .

She’s named Betsy. She has the best taste; buttermilk, dill, and chives.

I have named my stress loaves. Today, Tweetle Dee and Tweetle Dum are loafing around the heater. Proof, once again, that rising up is a good thing.

Most people have no idea how many slug species can inhabit their landscapes. In a slug haven like the northwest, there can be many species. A milky slug, a dark-face arion, and a European red slug are sharing a meal in the garden. The meal was one of their fallen comrades.

No fan of teasing, but teasing a slug to see the color of its slime can help with identification. Note the orange slime for dark-face arion.

The slug, dark-face arion, Arion distinctus, carries the blue theme but over the hole body. They like the cool temperatures this time of year.

I commonly find Limax flavus, the tawny garden slug, this time of year in my garden or under pots. The distinctive blue tentacles help ID it.

Stress bake number three (trois) in progress. We’ll see what actual baking creates. Whole wheat oatmeal bread.

Hah! Someone added me to a block "furry" accounts list. Was it the weevil picture?

It’s not fur, they have setae.

Hi to all who have welcomed me. Weevil lurks here on occasion but I am a benign influence.
