Fireworks (legally) on sale Oct 15-Nov 10. Two days so far when I didn't hear them. It's four weeks of torture if you have reactive pets, relatives with ASD, small children trying to sleep, work that requires you to get to bed before 11pm. Every night is firework night now, even Halloween. Insane.

The data set JLP published does not show age bands broken down by sex. But Onward (who commissioned poll) report has graph offering this, theirs lets you hover to see %s ukonward.com/reports/ball...

"I'm sorry to hear that Stella. I've spoken to the treasury who inform me that it is a trading decision and this new tax structure is final. You are however still welcome to look into repurposing your business to offer something useful to society? Or go back to laying bets to people with an IQ >50?"

Absolutely, but the original fess implies A&E people think motorcyclists are idiots and the replies make out you see more of them in A&E than car drivers. I think around 5% of each class of road user behaves like a psychopath (intermittently) which equates to a lot of drivers and not much else here

Without doubt, being on a motorbike is clearly far more dangerous than being in a car. Same goes for being a pedestrian, which may go some way to explaining why parents don't let their kids walk to school as much as they used to. Cars drivers bring so much danger - to other road users

Car occupants lead the way when it comes to organ donors. And they are far better protected when they crash, so way better chance of survival. Car drivers massively more dangerous to all road users, the odd motorcyclist might ride suicidally, but it's distracted car drivers I warn my kids about.

The article doesn't say MI5 tried to deport Banks' wife, that part refers to Lib Dem MP Mike Hancock's Russian lover. However she was served a deportation notice after ABH charge for smashing lamp over first husband's head, thankfully Hancock was able to fix her up with a council flat, gawd bless

I expect Putin was seething when Farage did that video for £25 and a bag of pork scratchings where he said "Up the Ra!" as he realised he had overpaid for Nigel's services.

You can open a complaint with them through Resolver, no idea how effectively that service works these days

Can't help wondering if Badenoch might have switched if she hadn't somehow been installed as Tory leader. Has winning that leadership contest sealed the end of her political career?

Googled it and found others reporting same problem this year, it's a bug. Some have fixed it on Android/iOS by updating FB app. Clearing cache/cookies might help on desktop. Someone reported that on iPad, it was missing in landscape but reappeared in portrait.

I think that's more of a global FB search menu top left. If you want to search within a profile/group then go to the page and click the "..." menu over on the right
September 13, 2025 at 12:50 PM
I can still see it (on desktop) - on my profile page it's in the "..." menu, right hand side. For FB group pages there is still a search button next to the "..." menu

This happened to me on here before, I was removed when I pointed out the label was ridiculous in my case, although I did not message anyone. It's a dangerous system letting anyone label anyone whatever they like. Making everyone's block list public is also sketchy in my view, puts me off BlueSky tbh

One of Kipchoge's training partners banned last year. Details say they didn't actually find the banned agent, it was inferred from high reticulocyte counts, which are unlikely (~1%) to have arisen naturally. But..what if they really did occur without doping? honestsport.substack.com/p/town-squar...
Kipchoge training partner caught blood doping - Town Square #2
Rodgers Kwemoi has been banned for six years for abnormalities in his Athlete Biological Passport between 2016 and 2023. He becomes the third athlete coached by Patrick Sang to be caught doping.

Thanks, will have a listen. To be fair, Kipchoge has said some strong stuff in the past, but I guess you don't keep banging on about it even from his lofty perch as he surely knows it's not a popular topic, literally any training group he sees is guaranteed to contain some dopers.
September 10, 2025 at 2:48 PM
I'm interested to know if there are cultural differences around shame of being caught that impact this. Japan's near perfect doping record seems likely connected to their extreme sense of honour. Maybe in Kenya, it's sort of no big deal if you get busted? Career over...but maybe still worth it?
September 10, 2025 at 1:13 PM
What if you discovered (say) 98% of cheats there were getting away with it? Chance of detection is surely a big factor in whether someone decides to break rules/laws. I think doping has remained endemic to pro sport for decades because athletes continually weigh risk vs reward (not just in Kenya)
September 10, 2025 at 1:09 PM
You mention Kenyans lacking a full understanding of the implications of doping, being easily manipulated, desperate, willing to take risks. But only they know how prevalent doping is, and how (un)likely it is for them to get caught.

You can post a pic of a burning car on local FB and hold your breath for longer than it takes for some illiterate donkey to claim it's an EV. The replies/reactions will be 95% agreeing, and the odd person who figures out it's a pic of an ICE from a news article in 2017 gets completely ignored.

That is an angle on civil rights/apartheid that I had never considered. Maybe they could have got it done with a strongly worded letter? We will never know.

I'm guessing you would have heaped criticism on Martin Luther King Jr and Nelson Mandela for breaking laws too? Sometimes the very best people break laws, for very sound reasons. That's how I view the PA protestors - sure they are on the wrong side of the law but they are absolutely not the problem.
September 8, 2025 at 2:02 PM
You say these people "know they are doing wrong" which equates breaking the law with being in the wrong. Many people broke the law to hide Jews from the Nazis. Was that wrong in your view?
