Silk and fur dance dress by Lucile, Ca. 1939

Lucile was the professional name of Lady Duff-Gordon. She was the first British. Asked designer to achieve international acclaim! She is also remembered for being a survivor of the Titanic sinking.

French silk gown, Ca. 1900-03

This dress is in the Met Costume Institute. It was donated in 1953 by Cornelius Vanderbilt & his sister & I believe the dress belonged to their mother who died that year. She was Grace Vanderbilt - formerly Wilson, one of the famous 'Marrying Wilsons'

Following the death of her eldest son, Albert Victor, in 1892, Alexandra wore the colours of half mourning for the rest of her life.

Recently I was lucky enough to see the Dress Codes exhibition at Kensington Palace. This Ivory & black silk gown by Reville was worn by Lady Annie Holcroft in 1928 for her court presentation.

Reville were one of London’s most prominent dressmakers, specialising in court dresses
