Not in Tamaria. Xenophobia is a REAL problem there. What's dumb is that their kindness betrays them, and when other people see them in close proximity, they describe their gaze as "sticky." ;)

But behavior has momentum. Once a couple grow accustomed to acting a certain way, it tends to persist.

Garrick and Brenna love each other passionately, but because she's Lithian, they endure strident disapproval over their inter-racial relationship. So, they don't touch in public. In private, however, they're quite physical.

I'd like to see evidence that writing has the same effect. I find writing cathartic, but it's not the same as targeted therapy with a professional.

I've had EMDR and found it so effective I included a description of it in my fourth novel.

This is nothing more than a tax break for the rich. The Republicans did this under George Bush, Jr. It did NOTHING to stop rising costs, and forces people to ration their healthcare. But it's great for the wealthy, who wind up with ANOTHER tax break.

Oh, and I didn't mention that neither of the main characters can speak the local language. An insurrection explodes around them and they have to find a way home.

It's pretty intense from the start and doesn't let up until the denouement at the end. 🙂
