Couldn't agree more. Nothing beats a sharp pencil on a printed copy for editing (at least for me). Some decent paper and a pencil or pen for working through ideas, even better.

My views on laptops have got me into trouble in the past. So, caveat that the computer may have advantages for some.

Part of the problem I suspect is conflating education into assessment. Making everything about passing exams and getting good grades creates so many problems.

Your point reminds me of some excellent media training I had via the British Academy. We were encouraged to remember that above all media outlets have to first fill their print space/populate websites/fill airspace. (Now we have click bait as well). Sector deserves a better trade publication

Prefer to actually read the literature, after all writers write for an audience not a computer model. Why can't we just accept that certain things take time.
