When first I came to #Nottingham, I heard a reference to (what sounded like) 4 Asians junction. What was this? I found out that on the corners of this crossroads stood a pub (damnation), a bookie (ruination), a school (education), a church (salvation). These were the 4 ations.

Anyone share my interest in the rise and fall of words? When and why did “multiple” become so dominant, now often elbowing out words like “many”, “several”, “lots”, “a number of”? And in so many different contexts. What makes a word triumph - and then maybe later fall?

TV ads are very odd. Do people really invite friends round to share the joy of sniffing their laundry? And I’ve seen a guy soaking in his bath and smiling blissfully as he contemplates his funeral plan.
