Grumpy old man for life.
I just watched the Wuthering Heights trailer.....

Palance and Steiger chew up the screen in this weighty Hollywood drama while Lupino steals every scene with calm assurance. One heck of a cast. Some impressive writing and clever use of the set.

Conscience is a stark, poetic and fatalistic tale of occupation which focuses on one harrowing question. Some beautiful imaginary and debatable acting merge to make a thoughtful, bumpy and depressing.

There is an intriguing premise and some clever ideas here but it's stretched out far too thinly; becoming essentially boring and annoying. Much of the humour simply doesn't work and it's more irritating than unnerving.

I was a bit worried about the new series of Slow Horses as it started off a bit ropey but it comes good in the end. Still feels a little too rushed compared to the first three.

There's nothing new or original here, but it's fun enough. Not up to the standard of the first but benefits for just going for it from the off.

Impressive levels of self-own here. Remember when there were editorial standards?

It's just a brilliant film. So beautifully structured, acted and paced. So many great actors. A perfectly judged runtime as well. Which has become a rare commodity. In a way it's almost an inverse Fargo

You would have thought Howard would have asked the cast to demonstrate their accents before deciding it was a good idea?! Poor filmmaking. Relies of Sweeney & de Armas to do heavily lifting they can't do. Overly melodramatic with zero tension. Straight to video.

The most overrated film of 2025 is shaping up to be a fierce competition.

Accent aside, Gere is actually good in this. It's a rather slapdash attempt at a Jackal story but there are some good performances and it's highly watchable. Particularly enjoyable seeing Jack Black's downfall.

Admittedly, I've not been keeping up to date with theatrical/digital releases anywhere near as much as normal, but these are my only 4-star or above films so far this year, so far.

Losey's hot-stew noir plays the long game. I'm not entirely sold on Can Heflin's performance, but there's much to admire. Not least, Trumbo's snappy dialogue and Miller's impressive cinematography.

Has GDT read Frankenstein? His changed this without a clue about the intent of the source material. Making The Creature far too sympathetic. It looks nice, but also there's too much 'style'. Goth is terrible. Elordi is really good. It's watchable but entirely forgettable.

There's a lot going on here and the tone doesn't know what to do, but it's entertaining stuff. At times it feels like Ritchie-lite but then the writing is much better. Not that it entirely knows how to make it seem that way.

Lumet's film relies of three central performances (PSH, Hawke and Finney) and they largely deliver (Hawke struggles). The perspective switch is a bit but it actually works in the end. Marisa Tomei's breasts deserve their own IMDB listing.

Fascinating insight into ordinary Russian life. When extraordinary things become ordinary.

It's ok. Some of it is pretty good. It's a very low PTA though. Lacks substance. No one warned me about the relentless, obnoxious soundtrack though. Bloody hell.

Just discovered there's a Russian Sherlock Holmes series of films. Going in.

Such a beautifully paced Southern pot-boiler of a crime thriller. Inspired use of music. Builds up a beautiful febrile atmosphere. Poitier is great but it's Steiger who knocks it out of the park.

There are some nice ideas here but I don't think its anywhere near as clever as it thinks it is. It never really gets going. Doesn't really amount to much in the end, for me.
