A Northern Red Cardinal in profile on a bird feeder that is full of shelled sunflower. It has just snowed and the bird’s red-orange wing and tail feathers and beak contrast with the green plants, tiny yellow flowers, and white snow. She has a fierce looking brown feather crest that is tipped I red. Ice has adhered to parts of the bird’s feet.

Winter is coming according to the guys in my yard. Z7 with Nikkor Z MC 105.
Ivy leaves and seeds in fall colors - blue seed berries on bright red stems with red leaves in the background. Dark maroon leaf of an ivy. Showing also are signs of a long summer of service and attempts by various creatures to eat or otherwise use the leaf for their purposes. Service berry tree leaves in close up, color is bright maroon-red Two tiny pinecones of a hemlock tree, each about 3/4” across. The center one is in focus, the left one is in the background and a bit blurred.

It came by so I snapped it
The almost full moon, taken handheld at 1/400” and 200mm, Nikon z7. There is an overall golden cast - this was how it appeared low in the sky just as it rose last evening. The mare and larger craters are visible, some with bright rays extending out almost halfway across the face of the moon. At the lower edge, some roughness is visible as the slanting sunlight illuminates the mountains from the side, showing the outline of their peaks against the blackness of space.

Chicago Botanic garden today
Sundial and pedestrian bridge among fall colors at the plant science center at CBG Plantings on the roof of the plant science center at CBG, low growing succulents make a path through knee high grasses. All in autumn colors. The interior of the plant science center at CBG from the top of the staircase looking from the back all the way to the front. The second story is simply a set of glass windows that illuminate the floor below. The floor and ceiling are made of what appears to be cedar boards for a nice natural feeling. On either side of the second story are the two large roof gardens that cover the science facilities below. Surrounding those are a row of solar panels barely visible.

Tried having gpt5 translate the writing between the rear front leg and the forward rear leg of the colossal winged bull statue at OI. I think it added to my experience and understanding and with a little prompting, identified where the text in this photo was which I found interesting. However…
This photo detects the cuneiform writing between the rear-most front leg, and the front-most rear leg of the winged bull statue featured in the other photo in this post. Colossal winged bull relief sculpture at Oriental Institute. It pictures a winged bull body with a decorated human head. The human has a prominent beard and a large headpiece that extends upward beyond the rest of the background. There are cuneiform writings on the flat parts of the sculpture between the legs of the bull. Photo is in black and white, there is a plaque to the viewer’s left with information about the sculpture but it is it legible.

From a visit to the Institute for the Study of Ancient Cultures or Oriental Institute as it had been named. It’s wonderfully done.
Colossal bull’s head from Persepolis, ~486 bce, one of two that guarded the portico of the Hundred Column Hall there. This is a 10-ton, black polished stone sculpture of the head of a bull. It is missing horns and ears which were originally made of different materials and fitted into the prominent sockets on the beast’s head. A person to the left looks at the information display, but also shows the enormous scale of the sculpture - it in s much larger than one adult person in height. Water plants, Chicago Botanic Garden, this morning
Pink, yellow, and red-orange flowers just appearing above the water’s surface which is covered with circular green and some reddish leaves. The water appears very flat and calm and is very dark, almost disappearing.
