Plenty of Route 66 themed restaurants, gas stations and casinos in NM. Texas isn't outdone with the roadside attractions including The Big Texan. If you can eat the 72oz steak plus all of the sides in an hour it's free. I usually get chicken fried steak when I visit.

I've always said the biggest enemies of a good road trip are Weather, Traffic and Fatigue. This last segment was all about battling Weather (heavy rain and some fog). Pulled over in a rest area once until the rain lightened up. I-40 through Albuquerque is a super nice stretch of road.

Sometimes out West you come across gas stations with 85 or 86 Octane. Which means you will have to pay more if your vehicle requires 87 Octane.
