I'm not at Harvard, but the false image that conservatives present of higher ed in America is indeed a very false image. And it's disappointing when conservative academics then knowingly lend credence to that in order to promote their agenda.
Column worth reading, by former two-term GOP governor who discovers that Harvard is not the hellscape of intolerance and group-think that the MAGA and its media are constantly telling him about.

(Think of parallels in so many other realms.)

Opinion | I was a red state governor. What I saw at Harvard surprised me.

Um if this is true it’s utterly horrific and morally indefensible in any circumstance.
They're using the confinement box, one of the most horrific methods of CIA torture in the post-9/11 black sites, against migrants now. This is the direct result of the lack of consequences for the architects of the torture program. Either there will be criminal penalties for this or it will expand.
Torture Techniques from CIA Black Sites Were Used at Alligator Alcatraz
Amnesty International, interviewing migrant detainees, identifies use of the confinement box. There can be no denying it is a torture prison

So I’m willing to share how I’m re-organizing my Gov 101 class but I’m going historically. We’re starting with the Declaration, the Constitution, ratification, then the first Congress- Alien and Sedition/nullification, the Judicial acts, then judicial review, then dual citizenship…. Etc

I honestly wonder if ICE will make it to Mardi Gras, and if they do— they’re going to start an absolutely riot aren’t they by trying to arrest a flamboux guy or a tractor driver aren’t they?

I dunno. I feel like we’re about an hour away from an epically stupid Friday night news dump. It just seems to be building to something waaaay dumber than normal.

NEH has taken down all of their lesson plans- including many with primary sources that all those bemoaning the death of classical education say we should be reading- but they are still on the way back machine. Also, these were paid for w/taxpayer money.
Yep, we posted the other day, and @altnehgov.altgov.info was kind enough to remind us of the wonders of the Wayback Machine!
EDSITEment - a project National Endowment for the Humanities with 30 years of development and over 1,000 lesson plans and resources for K-16 students that attracted 2.5 million visitors per year - appears to have been archived and is no longer accessible.

This is what the #NEH has become.
December 5, 2025 at 8:53 PM
So it appears that the NEH has deleted a ton of lesson plans from its website- I was using them to get original documents and now clicking on links brings you to an updated page with zero lesson plans. No option to filter for lesson plans either. So if anyone knows where they are lmk.

How is this reality? This reads like the most internet leftist pilled parody of a defense of the Iraq War circa 2003, but Lindsey Graham is using it for real in the year of our Lord 2025 we’re just letting it happen?
Lindsey Graham says the Pope better get on the “right side of history” and support Trump’s push to use military force to overthrow the government of Venezuela

I v. much agree that discussing a paper with a student is a great way to handle issues like at OU. I had a student misinterpret my comments and after talking with them even through email, we came to a place of understanding, but who has time to do this before the grades are even handed out?

The Trump admin has paused all immigration and naturalization processes for people from one of the 19 travel ban countries; including Cuba and Venezuela.

Even people who fully passed the citizenship exam are having their cases put on hold, just inches from the finish line.
Scoop: The Trump administration has paused all immigration applications filed by people from 19 countries banned from travel to the United States earlier this year, halting green card and U.S. citizenship processing for broad swaths of people.

More coming soon.

I used to get v annoyed at accommodation letters that would ask for things that just would not work with the way the class was -it would require redesigning the class. But then I talked to the disabilities office and was told that means it’s an unreasonable accommodation and I don’t have to do it.
The administration is extorting universities for billions of dollars and attempting to destroy free speech, academic freedom, and independent thought but the Atlantic talked to a few professors at elite universities who think the problem is that some students need a little extra time on exams

The people who are trying to destroy universities when it comes to inclusion around race and gender are also opposed to inclusion around disability. This bullshit gives them cover. Once again, legacy media laundering far right complaints because it makes elites feel smug.

btw, every "reasonable" person who's own posting stuff like "well, the prompt was unclear," or "she actually kind of did the assignment OK so maybe the TA overreacted"--you are also part of the problem! You're laundering the deliberate targeting of a TA and a blatant abrogation of academic freedom!
This thread is 💯. Labor precarity in academia means the evisceration of faculty governance and academic freedom, opening the door to administrative purges of the most vulnerable. And faculty-esp tenured faculty and academic leaders-who aren't defending their trans colleagues are enabling it.
So yeah, this is fundamentally about trans people and that cannot be elided, but the ways in which junior faculty are targeted and disposed of, while academic jobs are increasingly precarized, and political grandstanders seek to influence academic governance are fucking terrifying for everyone.

I think we need to start pointing out that these people aren’t just fighting against us secularists. This guy requires every Protestant— and possibly Orthodox to submit to a version of Catholicism that most Catholics don’t recognize. And don’t worry. Most Protestant Dominionist require the same.
I mean, it just keeps going: "In a chapter about politics, McCall wrote that separation of the Catholic Church from the state was “reaping its bitter fruits” and that the only solution to the ills of modern government was Catholicism." #whatIsThisCrap

So not a single OU tenures professor is showing up to work tomorrow right? Also every person in that class should protest. Why do you have to follow the rules but she doesn’t?

I’d also be pissed if I was a Christian- you’re telling me you think this is the best intellectual argument they can make?
OU has put the professor here on administrative leave:
