Here in the Midwest, the Great Lakes have historically had bipartisan support, but now NOAA and EPA Great Lakes offices are being threatened. Ask you elected officials what they are doing to protect our largest source of fresh water.

Make it clear how these actions are directly impacting their constituents and key issues they care about. Make it personal.

5. And yes, call your members of Congress (and governors and local officials). Attend town halls. Show up to their local offices.
Do your research - keep track of how they are voting. are they up for reelection? In a competitive seat? On relevant committees or in leadership?

3. Leverage scientific societies. Pressure them to stand up, speak out, and fight back.

2. Support former students, colleagues, and other contacts who have lost their jobs. Provide stellar references and letters of recommendation.

1. Email folks you’ve worked with - project officers, research collaborators, technical contacts - and let them know they are valued and appreciated. If you can, document how they have gone above and beyond to contribute to a project, provide support or technical assistance, etc
