Nobody is in Charge. This is a good thing
We're a sac of fluid attached to some calcium. Our entire operating system is made of lard.
#nzpol This govt is a "festering cluster of corrupt, autocratic racists" Paul Enright
I'm a plane nut
I watched astounded by the clip on 1News about a "Turkish AF C130" falling from the sky
Got distracted & came back to it this morning
This isn't a C130, it is the wing and engines twirling from the sky, the entire fore and aft fuselage are gone
There's been a midair catastrophe

This is what we started and where it had reached about 4 years ago
Nice to know it might be more useful than home for a few critters and a source of water for fire-fighting if needed

No need to imagine, I have 6kW panels & 14kWh battery & my last 7 days' grid dealings are below
However, that would have been impossible without my Homewood burning prunings for baking, water heating & the hob about every 4th day
Most of the soot is captured by the stove and no FF needed

Also, leaders make themselves
And they start anywhere, with almost nothing
Most fail, survivorship bias is a thing

Us: How are you going against the KPI's?
Them: Have YOU ever had to meet KPI's?
Us: Well..
Them: OUR KPI's are huge, and VERY complex, the numbers change depending on where precisely, with geometric logic, they are sampled, YOU could NEVER understand it, but the KPI's RULE!! Also, we win!!

After breakfast, my morning view
October 10, 2025 at 9:16 PM
Pre-breakfast mental health check
Meds/Ablutions/foot care
Weather readings
Put away the hand-washed dishes from yesterday
Box up some small cheeses for the fridge
Take down the sour cream from the Sunday's butter
Scythe some "lawn" for the cows
Make breakfast
Good to go for another day
And this

Paul Krugman OTOH, is both inside the beast, and rather more succinct about what he believes is going on
"the recent runup in gold prices is telling us something — namely, that the world is losing faith in America"
Swap "faith" for "trust" and we are there, also here

Fair point, "plausible" doing a LOT of work

Sweden: "Give them food, water and clean accommodation immediately" ie, they don't have it now
Israel: Sweden is lying, we do everything by the book

Who do they imagine is their audience?

Nominative Determinant Watt: Got it Nicola, a POLICY
Willis: Shit hot, time to announce an announcement
The Universe: Oh fuck off

On May 1 2007, the previous owners installed a 15.5k/L tank behind their new barn
They put it on a 100mm pad of compacted sand per instructions but didn't add a restraining edge
For 16yrs it worked fine
But climate change has added a LOT more water to the soil
So this

I will apologise to my actual cow in the miorning

No mistake, it's expensive & keeping the Homewood going means permanent attention to pruning stacking & drying fuel, genuine work
But the results ARE worth it
These pics are from our PV monitor
We should be doing this stuff at scale and EVERY new development should have it mandated & subsidised
August 27, 2025 at 6:30 AM
Still, at least they can still play rugby eh?

blackberry and apple pie, missing from the pic, 24 muesli muffins and 5L of pumpkin soup
Total energy cost a Maccas fries box of small 20-40mm firewood, 4 larger pieces ~100mm and 18 months to get it dry
If the buggers are going to make us into peasants, we might as well get it right
