The row/column limit in 16bit excel was a heartbreaker. You'd often have to make a new sheet and then spend days stitching the functionality together across sheets.

Nah, it did not care for your puny cards and what they did. Just in what packs were used for what tournament and what the legality was.

fun fact: at one point the re-orged the service department (which included us live ops-ers) which wound up letting go the only two of us who knew how to work the sheet.

We were promptly rehired and given nice salary bumps.

friend it was uhhh a thing. but it saved easily a few thousand by now. I wonder if Daybreak is still using THE SHEET now that they run MTGO.

That's more similar to the parsed regex generated from oracle that MTGO parsed to make every single card's microcode definitions.
