Put another way, If dropped onto that planet and told 'you have to figure out what happened here without engaging with the text logs', I think a player could get some of the answers *just* from the environment. But I'm not 100% sure, I'd have to actually try experiencing it thru that lens.

Because Outer Wilds is an investigative game, the relevant backstory is in a way the story, right? So how it lays out the level, the constructed paths across the hollows within Brittle Hollow, with alien tech left to help traverse it, feels like it tells the story of their cobbled-together survival.

Would Outer Wilds be a game that does this? I haven’t played it super deeply; the Brittle Hollow planet is the one I’ve played the most and it tells a lot of its story through interacting with the environment and level design.

I miss Glee and Smash so much and a version of either that was actually good could probably kill me.

Thank you! Here’s hoping I don’t hit my head on anything as I emerge 😅

I suspect this will be a key text for me in developing TTRPGs… yknow, once I find time to actually read it.

Thankfully I've already got plenty of imposter syndrome from training in TV writing, screenwriting and video game writing, so adding a little bit on top won't even phase me. 😅

It feels, at least in part, like a meditation on grief (beyond just Carol's *literal* grief): everyone is eager to help but confused by her pain, the world feels apocalyptic yet no-one sees it, her 'negative feelings' are treated as monstrous & dangerous, and she feels utterly, deeply alone.
