It's not that it's *off* in render view, it's just that raytracing algorithms really don't like weird normals, and by all accounts this is normal behaviour. Just gotta figure out how to go around that limitation... I'll message you later.

ideally i want them to look completely flat / 2D like how it shows up in studio / matcap lighting without any vertex weights gradients drawn, but a sort-of half-shaded look like in the second screenshot would be okay too. unfortunately bothmethods end up looking blocky on the render. any extra tips?
