I have never actually listened to a train wreck, but I suspect it sounds something like Good Charlotte performing Fairytale of New York during a Disney special hosted by Derek Hough.

1. Trump guts part of the White House to build his ballroom.
2. The ballroom, built to Trump’s usual standards, damages the foundation of the rest of the White House.
3. Trump denounces Obama & Biden for letting the building go to hell and says he’ll build a better one.
4. We get this. Thanks Obama.

Brian Dayett, former Yankees and Cubs outfielder, died Sept. 7 at the age of 68. He’d battled Parkinson’s for several years, and his health had been in decline lately. The news was posted on a GoFundMe page that had been created to help cover Brian’s medical expenses and equip his house. RIP Bama.

I have completed my 1979 Topps set, thanks to @aldonadi.bsky.social being kind enough to send me this Jim Rice card. So glad to have this one done and headed for a binder!

We’ve had a few days in Philadelphia & visited Eastern State Penitentiary. This area was the athletic field. You can see the backstop for baseball also had poles for field goals during football season. The fences on top of the wall were put up to keep home runs from flying over the prison walls.

Johnson was associated with the Braves from their time in Boston all the way through their 1990s first place streak. He died on this day in 2011 and is buried in Green Lawn Cemetery in Roswell, GA — right by his broadcast partner Pete Van Wieren.

Mike Ivie was born on this day in 1952. He had a pretty successful 12-year career, battling anxiety issues for most of it. During his time anyone with emotional problems was called a “flake,” & Ivie battled a string of unsympathetic teams.

He died in 2023 at age 70.

When your boss knows you collect baseballs cards and gives you a pile of cards that he just had laying around in his house.

An update from Ryne Sandberg’s Instagram page. I have such a sick feeling in the pit of my stomach.

Finally made it to my first game of the year, and it’s a doubleheader with the Lancaster Stormers & So. Maryland Blue Crabs. And yes, the Stormers have a second baseman named Lucky (No. 7).

Thanks to a TCDB trade, the last card I needed to complete my 1983 Fleer set has a new home. Only took 42 years, too. Welcome, Dale Murphy! #cardsky

Betsy “Sockum” Jochum, a star of the AAGPBL, has died at the age of 105. You read that correctly. She played for the South Bend Blue Sox and had 591 career hits, 7 homers and a .246 batting average. And in the one year she was a pitcher, she went 14-13 with a 1.51 ERA.

I recall Kelly Paris cards from my early days of collecting because very few ballplayers wore godawful huge eyeglasses like I did. I miss the days when every team had 1-2 players who looked like high school math teachers. Paris died of cancer on this day in 2019.

Today was flea market day in Lancaster County, and I stumbled across this box of vintage cards for $15. I will give them a very nice home.

I always loved this card and thought it was a shame that Phil Lombardi had such a short career thanks to multiple knee surgeries. He played for the Yankees & Mets and 43 games in the majors. He died of brain cancer on this day in 2021 at the age of 58.
