Spittlebugs have a loving relationship with dogwoods. They live in bubbles to hide from birds, protect from extreme temps, and repel predators. They extract O2 by piercing the bubbles. They don’t damage your plants, so even if they give you the heebie-jeebies, leave them to their bubble business.

My grandmother, great aunts (one killed by Gestapo for helping downed pilots escape over the Pyrenees from occupied France), and great grandparents. Photo taken just before my great aunt was captured during WW2.
