Hey friends. We are safe and away from the fires. Spent most of the day cleaning up after the wind storms that kicked up the fires as our yard had lots of branches and debris. Town was getting smokey and ashy. Not in an immediate evac zone but without power or cell service, we decided to relocate

My friend group went through a phase where it was a fun prank to set each other’s ring tones to a Klaxon alarm.
Then we realized we were all losing when someone’s phone rang in a group setting.

I’ve seen all kinds of (conspiracy) theory-crafting about the motives behind today’s tragedy based on car type, license plate, flag pole, etc. I know that “thoughts and prayers” has been weaponized for inaction, but we should still center our feelings on victims and survivors

One thing that I appreciate about MLB is that it takes these (pun intended) big swings that completely alter the game. Maybe it comes with the territory of every ballpark being different dimensions, but the variability of historic eras makes discussions of players from different eras pointless
No idea how much Europeans even care about baseball, but the MLB changes (bigger bases, pitch clock) favor base-running

I am wanting to do a deep dive into DanDaDan’s use of different pronouns and what each character is saying about themselves through that choice. It’s an incredibly layered part of the storytelling that non-Japanese viewers are missing out on
Saw some cranky throwaway comment about ‘Japanese ppl don’t care about pronouns’ and actually I feel like I’ve never met a language that cared more.

I don’t mind the Paul McCartney “Wonderful Christmastime” song. It’s not my favorite of his or holiday song, but it’s the kind of sweet song he was always known for and I think maybe people who weren’t exposed to that all their lives discovered him through it and had an allergic reaction

I find Bezos’s $600 million wedding figure to be utterly believable. It’s the “how much could a banana cost?” principle, but you apply the multiplier to another super rich wedding, not your personal concept of how much a wedding should cost
