It's basically a physical download key. The card doesn't have the game data on it, but provides you access to download and play the game.

in a way i sort of get it but not as a defense towards the mentality, but at how achievements as a system are vile. they're like game STDs that permanently mark your account for simply starting a game up. they're designed around neurosis.

when people whine about Nintendo platforms not having achievements i always think of this

nothing stopping them from being implemented on a game by game basis where appropriate, being some mandated system-wide thing is garbage
