Not sure what's the most shocking aspect of this story of waste being dumped to a depth of 2m across 0.6ha of SSSI..

that the fine was a paltry £15000..

that it took 3 years for NE/EA to stop the dumping..

Or that the judge actually believes the SSSI can be restored!

💰One of the biggest problems with PFI? Following the money.

Contracts change hands. Investors come and go. Money disappears into complex corporate structures.

The public funds it. But who's profiting?

And as a rough comparison:

Hinkley Point C:
- estimate now up to £35bn+
- 6 million homes
- proposed 2008, ready approx 2030

Dogger Bank Wind Farm:
- sub £10bn
- 6 million homes
- proposed 2008, already producing power
So it's now news Hinkley Point C will be really expensive?

FFS, I & others were trying to tell people this over a decade ago, before contracts were signed

But the nuclear-political establishment thought they knew better

They didn't. Not for the first time

This is worrying. Recently moved into a new build development. Scuffed up a patch of grass to sow a mini meadow- only to find plastic netting embedded in the newly laid turf. Apparently rife in new builds as easier to lay & cheaper to produce.

💷 In the last 5 years, NHS trusts spent £3.1bn through PFI contracts:£1.2bn in debt + £1.8bn in interest.

That £1.8bn could fund 50,000 new doctors’ starting salaries, or cover £2.7bn in urgent NHS repairs.

💔 Every pound spent on PFI debt is a pound not spent on NHS, staff or patients.
