No surprise, the Trump GSA is making it harder for public interest groups to submit comments as they gut regulations that protect consumers and the environment. Lawsuit anyone??
@mjgault.bsky.social notes that the Trump administration is making it harder for the public and consumer activists to provide feedback on government regulatory and policy changes.

Right now the Senate vote to proceed to consideration of the Bug Ugly Bill is stalled at 45 yeas and 50 nays. There must be a lot of serious pressure on the 5 senators who haven’t voted yet.

If Chuck Schumer votes for closure on the House-passed CR, against the will of a majority of the Senate Democratic Caucus, maybe it’s time for Senate Democrats to choose a new leader.

If you haven’t heard about a large river catching on fire lately, that’s because Congress passed the Clean Water Act and the people who work at EPA implemented it (by the way, EPA was created by Republican President Richard Nixon)
Your regular reminder that the US air & water pollution laws passed in the 60s & 70s -- and the elaborate federal bureaucracy created to administer them -- constitute one of the most successful gov't interventions in history. WILDLY successful. The envy of the world.

The Musk/Trump new limit on NIH grants will cost Maryland schools that do research at least $326 million
Maryland: In 2024, 4 schools received more than $10 million in grants from the NIH for a total of $1.13 billion. Of that, $699 million went directly to research and $431 went to facilities and administration. The new rate would bring that to $105 million, a loss of $326 million.

An excellent description and analysis of what’s really going on and some things we can do about it…
Sometimes self-government just means elections. And sometimes it means recognizing the deeper dignity and meaning of what it means to be a people. That means speaking up, standing out, and protesting. We can only be free together.

Valuable advice from the expert on messaging. Especially do not “fact check” because that would require restating the lie; just keep saying and repeating the truth.
Tips to keep democracy alive in 2025:

1. Be Brave. Avoid helpless/hopeless talk. Authoritarians want you to feel powerless because it makes their work easier. Courage, faith, and optimism are essential. Fascism feeds on cynicism and pessimism. Starve it.
