My federal grants with @wendymanning.bsky.social and Ann Meier were terminated last week. The language from the termination is below. It has been sad as we are being forced to say goodbye to members of our team. We are figuring out next steps. We remain deeply committed to studying all families.

What’s the best way to disseminate research findings? Try comics! My brother and I worked with a scholar to convey the experiences of women, racialized minorities and people with disabilities on public transportation

I wrote a little reflection on objectivity and diversity in science. Could be useful if you are teaching research methods, as is the companion paper on objectivity interrogation.

In this political moment, anti-science and anti-diversity social forces are resurgent, and they threaten diversity within our disciplines. In this reflection, I discuss why diversity matters by summa...

So, I'm going to share a maybe unpopular opinion: while stories like this focused on rightward shifts among AsAms voters of color have some value, they also serve to distract from the fact that Trump won because white voters supported him 2-1 despite his rhetoric.

For Minority Working-Class Voters, Dismay in Democrats Led to Distrust
In scores of interviews throughout 2024, Latino, Black and Asian American voters, many of whom voted for Donald Trump, said they no longer trusted Democrats to improve the economy.

How do we memorialize monsters?

A few years ago, the city of Gwangju had an idea, and Hyun Sook and I made a comic about it for The Nib.

Someone please tell me these proposed studies have now been published
People with five letter first names do better at Wordle. Someone will publish this study in JPSP within the next year. Already starting my 2024 prediction. What’s yours?

This CV discovery still astounds me and cracks me up. Academics need to chill out. We are not that important or impressive.
I was perusing a CV of a senior faculty member and noticed they put their class rank from undergrad on there. Not just saying graduated summa or in top 1% or 10%, but the actual numeric rank of x out of xxx graduates. That’s a first and I hope the last time I see that sort of thing

How to support marginalized parents in our communities?

UMinn scholars partnered with local Somali-American parents & community leaders to develop a low-cost (high-value?) way.

Tuned to Somali-American culture.

Audio based, no reading required.

In Somali, with English option.

My major holiday break win - I fixed my @Baratza encore grinder by replacing two broken parts. Shipping cost more than the parts but worth it nonetheless!

Where are all the kids of color in the #comic world of #ThePeanuts? My artist brother and I created #TheOtherOnesByLee as this alternate world. We focus on normalizing and making visible the racial and ethnic experiences of communities of color. Check it out!
