They can investigate and interview all they want. Article 94 is clear, and there's not a court in the land that would give Trump or Hegseth the authoritarian conviction they'd like.

The problem is that one of the countries we need to have a defense against is the US itself: and if they cut off software updates under ITAR, the F35 is a grounded brick within months.
They can't do that to the Gripen.

Why does the Russian side never get questioned about its governmental organization? Ukraine needs to demonstrate unblemished virtue to earn the right to its survival, but its Russian counterpart isn't open to question?

That's an.... opinion. Probably not a broadly shared one. Between the security theatre and the herding cattle transport, it is fair to say the popular view is the one you've argued against here, and this likely hasn't made your case more persuasive.

It is also a practical matter. Russia has been able to use Ukraine’s own rail against it by threading trains down track it seizes. They would not be able to do that to Finn trains that have changed gage.

I’m not so sure: note Comey’s lawyers positioning - “There was no indictment.” if he prevails in that argument, there’s nothing to file.
