Palestinian children have been killed at a rate of more than one child per hour during Israel's war in Gaza.

“A whole classroom of children killed every day for nearly two years,” UNICEF’s executive director said.

Striking stuff from @pkrugman.bsky.social, who dismantles Trump's Europe deal from top to bottom. It will actually undermine US manufacturing, the "concessions" Trump won are fake, and Trump voters will be hit hard by the tariffs.

📈 What stands in the way of more renewable energy?

🤫 Spoiler: It’s not nature protection laws.

The real barriers? Staff shortages, rushed public engagement, and weak grid connections.

Industrial policy is public policy—it demands democracy.

No civic groups were invited to the EU’s strategic dialogue on steel. This isn’t a glitch; it’s a pattern. Corporate voices dominate the new industrial agenda, while civil society is sidelined.

Op-ed signed by Europe’s main NGO networks ⬇️
When is an EU 'dialogue' actually a monologue?
As a sign of the importance of 'green steel', the EU Commission this month launched a Strategic Dialogue on the Future of Steel — a high-level roundtable with industry executives and policymakers. Yet...

👎it's too vague on which sectors will be deemed strategic and how “simplification” won’t harm environmental and social safeguards

NGOs could lose crucial EU funding, leaving rich corporate lobbyists to dominate policymaking.

Without civil society, there's no one to hold power to account or fight for people's rights and the planet.

Together with temperatures also denial ramped up in 2024, as well as the idea that the issue can be fixed without decisive actions but sweeping it under the carpet.

The cost of inaction is much higher, emissions must be cut as soon as possible!

Cost of electricity relative to fossil fuels is key factor when it comes to industrial electrification.

In most EU countries electricity is taxed more & renewable energy support levies are often put on electricity & not on fossil fuels.
