Brings back memories! 😂

One episode of a streaming TV show we watch ended with an old Italian woman exclaiming “Mannaggia!” right into the camera. Pronounced ma-NAJ of course.

“Your somewhat unique amusements”. 🤨
Gerald Barton, who sold Doonbeg Golf Club to Trump, *also* knew Epstein; called Epstein his "Extraordinarily Talented, Outrageous Friend" in 2016; updated him on life; noted he was surprised Trump hadn't ruined Doonbeg; and so on.

Epstein responded with fewer words than Barton used paragraphs.

As someone deeply concerned professionally with securing elections, i think making unfounded claims that elections are being rigged is an extremely harmful grift, that deserves strong condemnation.

Agree. Anyone who thinks “globalization” is some sort of US economic policy that we can turn on or off has no concept of the modern world. The world outside the US exists and they’re racing ahead with or without us.

Here's what people don't get about H1B in tech: it's already a globally competitive labor market. The question isn't whether foreign tech workers will compete with American ones - they will - but whether they will hold their jobs and spend their incomes here or abroad.

A sweet Oak Titmouse pauses for a portrait. Just a picture of an ordinary little bird, rated Common. Common, that is, if you live in California. Seen almost anywhere else, this bird would be a rare vagrant, an exciting sighting! Everything is relative. #birds_matter #birds

We're officially live. It's incredibly important to have a real record of how our public servants are behaving and this database will be a powerful tool for researchers, reporters, and ordinary Americans.
1/6 A new standard for public accountability is here. GLOW—Government Lawyers Oversight Watchdog—is officially launching today to hold government lawyers accountable. We're unveiling The Government Lawyers Database at glowlaw.org. #RuleOfLaw #Accountability

This one might actually cause the SCOTUS majority some problems. Maybe.

Gahhhhhhh. Though I wonder how that compares to a normal day at Newark. (Having no experience with EWR.)

I’ve come to believe that we need to gather considerable forces and a campaign to demand the removal of face masks by ICE, Border Patrol, FBI and police.

It is a practice in conflict with the principles of transparency & accountability that are central to the concept of democracy.
Video on social media shows an immigration agent pulling a gun in Little Village and holding it to the side — which is not an appropriate or safe way to hold a gun. (Among other issues.)

A Reagan-appointed judge has quit the bench so he can speak out against assaults on the rule of law (he is a senior judge so it doesn’t create a vacancy):

Calling things by their right name is never a bad idea. There are many ways to fight an authoritarian movement, but trying to convince people that the movement has already won and instituted fascism is just stupid.

"Putin attacked Ukraine, not Russians" fails to grapple with why millions of ordinary Russians were willing to follow orders in a devastating war against Ukraine.

This stuff open up questions over how far Russia as a society will come to terms with the past after Putin is gone.

i say thank you to the bus driver when i get on and yell thank you when i get off every day i ride the bus, and i take two buses to and from work, being nice and friendly costs you nothing and should be your default expectation for yourself because it improves your day and everyone else’s day
Being nice to people is just fun. Asked young server at taco place how her day was going (fine but tired) and she asked me back. I said I managed to finish my to-do list and she unexpectedly gave me a high five! Treating people like people is always rewarding.

there’s a thing here about for the last decade or so, online people have been very negative about small talk - the weather, or local news, or whatever - and small talk is the grease that keeps physical interactions going, and i am tired of ceding that to shut-ins

It's funny. I've watched the final 11 minutes of _All That Jazz_ (www.youtube.com/watch?v=YCZH...) many times but I've never actually seen the movie!

I once randomly caught the final scene on TV years ago and was struck by it. And then at some point went looking for it on YouTube.

Yes, exactly!

Best strip going these days. Easily.
A reminder that the Flash Gordon daily comic is REALLY FRIGGING GOOD and you should read it. @danschkade.bsky.social has made me care about Flash and his world for the first time since the 1980 Michael Hodges film. But that was high camp and this is High Adventure.
