Fair Housing Laws and HUD Guidance Workshop for Service Providers, a practical training to equip service providers with essential knowledge of fair housing laws, HUD guidance, and state protections to better assist clients with criminal and/or eviction histories navigate the housing landscape. participants will be better able to: educate their clients on their rights, advocate with landlords using HUD-compliant language, and connect landlords to free tenant screening reviews bridge gaps between clients and housing providers leverage federal and state protections to combat discriminatory policies. This session will cover key protections under the Fair Housing Act, including reviewing HUD’s 2016 & 2023 guidance on criminal records and HUD’s 2023 guidance on tenant screening and eviction histories and discussion of their relevance to the FHA, even if modified by HUD. Take Action for Increased Funding for Home Preservation and Repair Dear Friend, Co-sponsor memos are now circulating in both the House and Senate for a new state-funded program that would continue the critical work of the Whole-Home Repairs Program. The one-time Whole-Home Repairs investment in 2022 was a game changer. With nearly half of our state's housing built before 1970, many homes are aging into disrepair. This program allowed communities to address urgent repair needs so people could stay safely housed. The proposed PA Home Preservation Program builds on the most successful components of the previous program, focusing on critical health and safety repairs to help people stay in their homes and preserve our aging housing stock.
