I’ve worked in intranets, digital workplaces, and comms long enough to see the same cycles repeat, the same mistakes made, and the same bright ideas crash and burn.

So here are the hard truths. Are you ready? Let’s go. 🧵

Dear unis,

If you are setting assignments for which you cannot tell if an average-to-good submission is written by AI or not then consider whether it is a worthwhile assignment.

100% this. People who do digital jobs are often motivated by their values and an urge to "make stuff better". When that is constantly frustrated they burn out or leave.
Nobody wants to be paid to do a job, then be continually blocked from doing it. We’ve all experienced it. While “digital transformation” is mostly persuasion rather than making stuff, the slog can become wearing and people get fed up, as it begins to feel personal, or that the org just doesn’t care.

Yes! 🙌🏻
NHS App back in the news and I'm not one to miss an opportunity to reheat my favourite graphic. (Other icebergs are available) What's fascinating in the app's case is that it probably needed a simple 'solution-first' strategy to provide the political drive to do the alignment in the background.

I’m in Japan right now so I’m obliged to remind the world — we don’t want AI. We want a robust rail system. We want trains. Metros. High speed. Locals. Cute trains. Efficient trains. Trains.

Whoever at the British Library made this gif of a Wodewose trying to kidnap a lady and being speared to death: thank you, it's awesome.

man, people posting photos of dense text on their Instagram stories, they really belong here. Posting on the wrong platform is so upsetting. Words people trapped in the image machine.

Thought I'd "live tweet" the #HEConnect24 conference, then realised I don't know if that's even a thing on here yet...
